Assistant Professor Gholnecsar Muhammad was named the 2016 recipient of the Janet Emig Award, which recognizes researchers studying English teacher education.

Gholnecsar Muhammad hosts Black Youth Write, a NCTE-funded workshop bringing local students to campus to practice their writing skills and explore issues facing black youth today.
The Urban Literacy Clinic and Collaborative co-hosted Black Girls Read, a day of interactive activities that encouraged African-American girls to embrace their own voices and Black women’s literary histories.
