SUPPORTING COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION

Our sustainable strategy for computer science for all involves integrating computing into various disciplines within formal education.
Integrating computing across disciplines ensures all students learn problem-solving with computing and provides teachers with innovative tools for teaching disciplinary content.

SNAP INC. CENTER PROGRAMS
About the Program
We are committed to furthering the goal of computer science for all by preparing preservice teachers to teach computing in ways that focus on equity and align with educational standards and evidence-based research. Because most of our teachers will teach in disciplines other than computer science, we use computing-integration activities in teachers’ disciplinary teaching methods courses. As a result, all teachers learn computing activities that are directly relevant to their teaching practice.
Goals
To integrate computing into instruction in other disciplines to:
- Expand teachers’ toolkit of pedagogical and technological tools in the classroom to include computing tools
- Give students experience using computing to solve problems across a range of disciplines outside of standalone computer science instruction
In April 2024, we hosted a workshop about ethical and appropriate use of generative AI tools in teacher preparation and education. Recordings of the workshop are available at AI Literacy and Applications.
For academic year 2024-2025, the Snap Inc. Center is hosting a mini-grant program to support teacher education faculty in redesigning individual courses or coordinating changes across full programs related to generative AI tools. Please see the Call for Proposals for more information.
