PROJECT NURTURE
The Network for Urban and Rural Teachers United for Residency Engagement (NURTURE) is a federally funded project for the Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Innovation and Improvement.
Earn a master’s degree in 18 months.
Participate in a classroom residency program.
Teach in a high-needs rural or urban school.
The Teacher Residency Program
The residency program is for candidates with bachelor’s degrees, to develop as teachers over an academic school year.
Residents will:
- Partner with mentor teachers for one year earning a master of arts in teaching degree in 18 months
- Commit to teaching in a high-need rural or urban school for three years
Residency Readiness Academy (RRA)
For those with associate degrees this program prepares participants to apply for the teacher residency.
Participants will:
- Complete an undergraduate degree with support from a partner institution
- Receive financial aid counseling, test preparation training and other recommendations supporting student success
Academy for Future Teachers (AFT)
Academy for Future Teachers (AFT) is designed for high school students considering teaching math or science in a rural and/or urban environment.
Student will:
- Discover what a career in teaching looks like
- Experience writing a teaching unit for use in a real classroom
