When applying to the Education Informatics Certificate program, you will need to submit several documents for review.

A Certificate in Education Informatics is available from the College of Education & Human Development to eligible students enrolled in a master’s, specialist or doctoral program at Georgia State. To earn this certificate, students must complete a minimum of four 3-credit-hour graduate research methods courses with a collective GPA of 3.5 or higher in these courses, with no grade lower than a B- in any course counted toward the certificate. The certificate program must be completed within four years from the term when the first course in the program was taken, not including prerequisite courses.

The three required courses in this certificate are the following:*

• EPRS 8600 Computer Use in Educational Research (3)
• EPRS 8710 Text Mining in Education and Human Development (3)
• EPRS 8610 Advanced Computer Methods for Educational Research (3)

Prerequisites. The prerequisite courses for the certificate are the following: EPRS 8530 (Quantitative Methods and Analysis in Education I), EPRS 8540 (Quantitative Methods and Analysis in Education II), and EPRS 8550 (Quantitative Methods and Analysis in Education III), or equivalent.

Eligibility

To be eligible to earn the certificate, students must:

• be enrolled in a graduate program at Georgia State
• have a minimum GPA of 3.3 to apply

Normal Time to Complete Program

The certificate program requires 4 courses which are 3 credit hours each. Students must also have 3 prerequisite courses which total 9 credit hours. An estimated time-frame to complete the certificate program is two years, excluding the prerequisite courses. Students may be able to apply the coursework in the certificate program to their degree programs.

The two goals for the Certificate in Education Informatics are the following:

1) to benefit society by improving data analysis, especially with large databases in education and human development, thus leading to the existence of better programs, and

2) to benefit individual students by providing another avenue for students to pursue a career in data analysis related to education and human development, which likely will support research endeavors and/or program evaluation.

Students who complete the Certificate in Education Informatics will be able to:

1. Develop research questions and/or exploratory data analysis approaches for large data sets in education and human development areas,
2. Select statistical and/or measurement models relevant to the information needed from database analyses,
3. Select software programs able to compute various analyses on large databases,
4. Compute analyses on large databases and
5. Contribute to a comprehensive, context-appropriate report for educators and personnel in human development based on a database analysis.

Learning Outcomes and Assessments
The Research, Measurements and Statistics (RMS) faculty evaluate students on learning outcomes for the certificate which are assessed in courses the student takes. The learning outcomes below are assessed based on the student’s ability to work with large databases relevant to education and human development.
