- Biography
Xiaolu Liu joined Georgia State University in 2022 as an assistant professor of health and physical education in the Department of Kinesiology and Health. Liu received her Ph.D. in physical education teacher education from The University of Texas at Austin, M.Ed. in physical education teacher education and B.S. in physical education (K-12 licensure) from Zhejiang Normal University in China.
Liu’s primary research focus revolves around physical education teacher education, with an emphasis on the development of assessment literacy among physical education teachers. Additionally, she explores innovative approaches, such as technology integration and computational thinking concepts, to better prepare future physical education teachers for K-12 contexts. She has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals such as Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy, European Physical Education Review, Frontiers Psychology, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and others. She has made over 55 presentations at regional, state, national and international conferences.
Liu is a current member of the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and a lifetime member of the International Chinese Society for Physical Activities and Health (ICSPAH). She also serves as the secretary of physical education of the International Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Dance and Sport (IAHPEDS). She was awarded the Outstanding Early Career Research Award from ICSPAH in 2023, the Graduate School 2020 Summer Fellowship, Dr. O. L. Davis. Jr. Endowed Excellence Award, Asian/Asian American Faculty & Staff Association RAISE Award, and Faculty/Student Collaborative Award from The University of Texas at Austin.
