- Biography
Courtney Strosnider is a clinical instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health. She earned her undergraduate degree in kinesiology and health sciences from The College of William and Mary and her master’s degree in clinical exercise physiology from James Madison University. Strosnider is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health at Georgia State University with a concentration in Health Promotion and Behavior. She conducts research in the Mindful Living Lab. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including cardiac rehabilitation at Emory University; outpatient physical therapy practices in Colonial Heights and Williamsburg, Va.; and inpatient physical therapy at John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell, Va. She has also worked in the fields of corporate wellness and recreation therapy.
Strosnider’s current research in the Mindful Living Lab is focused on how mindfulness can be used to promote healthy living, including smoking cessation, in diverse populations (http://www.mindfullivinglab.org/home). Her previous research focused on heart rate variability in obstructive sleep apnea patients during steady-state exercise. She also collected research on balance in the elderly using the Nintendo Wii. She is interested in clinical populations and exercise, obesity prevention, and helping sedentary populations become more physically active. She would like to see the U.S. healthcare system start prescribing exercise as medicine.
