- Biography
Christian Valdez is a project coordinator with the Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education at Georgia State University. He is currently working with the Juntos and ESCUELA grants.
The Juntos grant objective is to cultivate new and effective teachers responsive to dual language immersion models of instruction to improve the academic achievements of English language learners/emergent bilinguals. The ESCUELA grant focuses on improving the academic achievement of English language learners/emergent bilinguals by increasing in-service teachers use of culturally and linguistically relevant teaching (CLRT) practices and capacity for working with families and communities of English language learners/emergent bilinguals.
In addition, Valez graduated with a master’s in early childhood education through the Urban Accelerated Certification and Master’s Program (UACM) from Georgia State University in 2017. He was a first-grade, dual-language immersion (DLI), Spanish partner-teacher in Atlanta Public Schools for three years. He has shared his expertise and best practices with other DLI teachers in the district and surrounding districts via conferences/workshops/professional learning.
