Resources and opportunities for our students.
Graduate assistantships are available in departments and Colleges across campus including our department. Every assistantship differs according to the funding source; some may be for one semester only, others may be extended beyond one semester. The hours of employment, the amount of tuition paid, and any additional stipend offered varies. You can apply for assistantships any time after you have been admitted to a program. Application information is provided to new students through our welcome ambassador program.
Graduate Assistantship Opportunities
Research Assistantships
Our department is pleased to offer graduate assistantships for master’s level students in our programs. Recipients of research assistantships work closely with our faculty members for up to 20 hours per week, collaborating on research projects that frequently lead to presentations at professional meetings and publications.
In addition to a waiver of tuition, research assistantships provide stipends up to $2,000 for master’s students.

Scholarships Database
Exercise Science Club
Many of our students in the exercise science program participate in our student organization which offers opportunities to network, participate in community service activities, attend educational events and connect with the regional and national chapters of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Georgia State exercise science students have won the Southeastern ACSM Student Trivia Bowl title and have placed as high as third nationally.
Our students also have an above national average pass rate for the Certified Exercise Physiologist exam through ACSM.
SMAC
The Sport Management and Administration Club (SMAC) is the official student club of the Georgia State University Sport Administration program.
Purpose
The purpose of SMAC is to enhance the educational experience of the club members and make members more knowledgeable of the sport industry by providing a forum for networking, service to the sports community, creating opportunities for members to gain hands-on experience, and providing access to working professionals.
Goals and Objectives
The goals and objectives of SMAC are to:
- Provide a forum for networking between students of the Sport Administration program
- Promote awareness of the Sport Administration program
- Provide service for the sports community by volunteering and fundraising
- Provide a resource for lifelong learning
- Create a means of communication between active members, alumni of the program and professionals within the sports industry
- Continue to build on the foundation provided in the classroom
Club Socials and Events
Throughout the year, SMAC will host socials for club members in various areas around the city of Atlanta. This is a chance for members to get to know who is the program, network, talk with alumni, and to have fun.
Past socials have included sites such as Hudson Grille and Gordon Biersch. Food is normally provided and games are a must! This gives a chance for students to put their knowledge of sports to the test with trivia or break out the old tacky holiday sweater for a chance at some awesome prizes.

KH Ambassadors
KH Ambassadors are graduate students who serve as KH liaisons to our students. They assist our students by answering calls and emails regarding graduate questions or concerns.
They are available for department tours, they provide information about local housing and parking and they’ll offer information about navigating downtown Atlanta.

Waitlist Dates:
Spring 2024
Q: Why join a course waitlist?
If you are having registration issues or are closed out of a class, you are not automatically placed on a waitlist. You must place your name on a waitlist for the course in which you would like to enroll. Add yourself to the waitlist by filling out the online form. You will be added to the waitlist if you have met ALL course prerequisites, have no scheduling conflicts and have not yet reached your maximum credit hours allowed.
Q: Why remove yourself from a waitlist?
If you do not want to wait for a course any longer, you MUST take action to remove yourself from it. Otherwise, you may be registered automatically if space becomes available! You can remove yourself from the waitlist by selecting ‘Drop’ from the online form.
Q. How do I know if I got into a class?
If space becomes available in a class and you are on the waitlist, you will be enrolled automatically. It is up to you to check your course schedule throughout the first week of classes to see new course assignments. If you are not selected from a waitlist, plan to take the course next semester.
Q. Why did I not get into a course I was on the waitlist for?
- Not Selected To Enroll:
- Waitlist decisions are determined by class status, credits earned, GPA and other factors that determine students’ needs to take the course. Students that academically show the most need for the course is chosen. See your academic advisor for proper course planning.
- Time Conflicts:
- If the course that you have joined the waitlist for conflicts with a course you are currently enrolled in, you will not be placed into the course and will be removed from the waitlist. DO NOT place “filler” courses on your schedule that time conflict with KH Courses that you need. See your academic advisor for proper course planning.
- Max Hours:
- Students are allowed to enroll between 12 – 15 credit hours. If your current schedule does not allow room for additional course adds, you will be removed from the waitlist. See your academic advisor for proper course planning. Additional credit hours can be added by visiting the Student Advisement Center.
- Prerequisites:
- You have not met the approved prerequisites for a course. Read through the course details to determine the GPA and previous course requirements before adding to a waitlist. See your academic advisor for assistance for proper course planning. Check prerequisites, GPA requirements, and etc.

Desire2Move, or D2M, is an annual program that encourages university employees to participate in physical activity. D2M is 100% digital, meaning program information is shared through email and mobile apps, so employees can participate anywhere.
The team with the greatest average minutes at the end of the eight weeks wins a trophy — the Golden Shoe Trophy!
