“The conversations that we had, in the beginning, had me reflecting of my own cultural biases”
(In-service teacher participant, Summer Science, 2021)
“Before I took these classes, I anchored in my own experiences, which obviously doesn’t apply to [the students] at all.”
(Pre-service teacher participant, Summer Science, 2021)
Bridging Science Teaching and Learning in Title 1 Schools
SCI-Bridge is a teacher development project that addresses inequities in access to quality science education in schools. The project broadens the participation of individuals who have been historically underrepresented in science such as people of color and poor communities. This work is supported by the National Science Foundation under grant No. 2010361. Any opinions, findings and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation.

What We Do
SCI-Bride combines best practices in science education with culturally relevant teaching. It supports teachers’ use of three practices: culturally responsive classroom management, facilitated discourse and anchoring.
