SCI-Bridge
“The conversations that we had, in the beginning, had me reflecting of my own cultural biases”
(In-service teacher participant, Summer Science, 2021)
“Before I took these classes, I anchored in my own experiences, which obviously doesn’t apply to [the students] at all.”
(Pre-service teacher participant, Summer Science, 2021)
Bridging Science Teaching and Learning in Title 1 Schools
SCI-Bridge is a teacher development project that addresses inequities in access to quality science education in schools. The project broadens the participation of individuals who have been historically underrepresented in science such as people of color and poor communities. SCI-Bridge is funded by a two-year, $450,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

What We Do
SCI-Bride combines best practices in science education with culturally responsive teaching. It supports teachers’ use of three practices: culturally responsive classroom management, facilitated discourse and anchoring.
