Chanel Reid is a second-year gerontology student at The Gerontology Institute. Reid came to the H.O.P.E. lab to understand how social isolation, loneliness and elevated suicidality (SILES) impact the older adult population after enrolling in Dr. Wendy Simonds’s “Death, Dying and Loss” course. Simonds made the introduction to Mary Chase Mize, Ph.D. who made the introduction to Laura Rosemary Shannonhouse, Ph.D.
Reid is currently working on her master’s thesis utilizing the H.O.P.E. Lab’s SILES data and research. She is interested in pursuing clinical psychology specializing in diverse older adults and their families for healthier mental outcomes. After graduation, Reid hopes to develop collaborative solutions with older adults by continuing to participate in warm calling programs, creating awareness of the SILES concepts in community presentations and implementing a national crisis hotline, especially for older adults.
She is excited to be a part of the transformative and groundbreaking H.O.P.E. Lab team to gain insights from its phenomenal leaders, team members and older adults’ voices.
