The Adult Literacy Research Center (ALRC) works on behalf of adults with low literacy.
Our first project is collaborating with the School of Public Health’s Prevention Resource Center to create COVID-19 written materials for refugees in Clarkston.
These materials are written at elementary reading levels, and will be translated into several languages to ensure they are not only written in plain language, but are culturally appropriate as well.
Second, we have created a library of high interest/low literacy Coronavirus materials. These materials are rated as easier or harder, and are written at up to the 9th grade reading level; it is our intent that anyone who works with adults with low literacy (adult educators, community organizers or health professionals) can download and use these documents.
