Aging expert Robert Blancato flew to Atlanta to observe the HHS grant work of Laura Shannonhouse and Mary Chase Mize in North Fulton and Henry counties. His list of experience in the field is extensive including executive director of National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services, national coordinator of the Elder Justice Coalition, the board of directors for AARP, and past-chair of the American Society on Aging, to name a few,
“Our research is aligned with his interest in combating social isolation through the congregate nutrition programs across the country. It was a delightful visit,” Shannonhouse said. “He has an incredible way of connecting with older adults instantaneously… whether it be dancing, facilitating discussions, hearing stories or sharing wisdom… his encounters matter!
He visited two of our counties we are working with on the HHS grant, and then also found time to meet with deans, department chairs, doctoral and masters students, and faculty at Georgia State University. We were blessed to get to learn from him and his sophisticated understanding of the aging network. He is a gift to older adults everywhere!”
