Rivendell Rambouillet

The doctor delivered the "bad" news. I "should" exercise everyday. Hey! Sounds like a great idea to me!!!

Of course, I had to sell the idea of a new bike to "she who must be obeyed," but you know I had to protect my knees and my 1980 Bianchi Super-Leggera just wouldn't be the same with a triple crank. A few weeks later, Peter White built up and delivered a new 62cm Rambouillet and I couldn't be happier.

Of course, as nice as a new high quality bike may be, the bottom-line is how well it rides. On my first ride I was struck by how familiar it felt. It immediately reminded me of a custom-built 1975 Motobecane Champion Team that I commissioned as a young private when stationed with the U.S. Army in West Germany, but in a fit of what can only be temporary insanity let go a few years later. The only real difference seemed to be that between the Rambouillet's wired-on clinchers and the Motobecane's Clement Paris-Roubaix tublars. However, this summer I'll take care of that with a set of tublar wheels and perhaps Andre Dugast tires for those days when I feel particularly "fast."
