Dr. Kesner has worked as an early childhood educator, elementary school teacher, and as director of an after school program. Currently, he teaches child development in the Department of Early Childhood Education's undergraduate program and is the Executive Director of the Saturday School For Scholars and Leaders program, an educational enrichment program for gifted children.

His research focuses on gifted children, child-parent and child-teacher relationships, and family violence. He has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences and has published in the Journal of Family Violence, Journal of School Psychology, Social Work in Education, The Reading Teacher, Reading Research Quarterly and The Journal of Early Education and Family Review.
