How much does Saturday School cost? Saturday School sessions are $175 per session. A session includes one class for five consecutive Saturdays. If your student takes both a morning and afternoon class the charge is $350. We offer a 15% discount to GSU faculty, students, and alumni. The 15% discount is also offered to families with three or more children. We accept Visa, Mastercard and Check. What makes my child eligible for the program? Initially, all children are
eligible for the Saturday School program. We offer Provisional or Full
admission. Provisional Admission is offered to all students for 1
year. Students receiving provisional admission may register for classes,
but have one year from the date of initial application to provide
evidence of meeting the admission criteria. Students who do not provide
this evidence within the year time limit will not be allowed to remain
in the program. Full Admission to the program requires meeting the
specific criteria for admission at the time of first application. In
order to receive full admission, all students must have the required
test scores and be recommended by school
personnel or the testing psychologist. Yes! The test scores and recommendation letter are kept on file, however, a complete application is required for each session. Classes differ from one session to a next and a new application also allows us to update any contact information. When are classes offered? We offer various sessions throughout the year. Please refer to our Calendar to see exact dates. Fall and Spring sessions have two class times, morning and afternoon. Morning classes are from 9am-12pm and Afternoon classes are from 1pm-4pm. Where does my student go each Saturday for class? Saturday School classes take place on GSU's main campus in downtown Atlanta. Classes take place in the Classroom South Building unless otherwise noted. Students should report directly to their classroom each Saturday. Where do I drop my student off for Saturday School? It is Saturday School policy for you to park and come inside with your student each Saturday. An attendance sheet will be located in each classroom for you to "sign-in" and "sign-out" your student. This also gives you the chance to meet the teachers and hear about all the exciting things your student is engaging in! (Please notify the teacher in writing of any individual with whom a student should/should not be allowed to leave with). Students are to arrive prior to the beginning of class and be picked up promptly at the end of class. Where do I park for Saturday School? Parking Deck "G" will be available at a special rate ($4.50) for Saturday School parents. Please mention to the parking attendant you are with Saturday School to receive this discount. Parking Deck "G" connects directly to Classroom South Building. There is a bridge on the 3rd floor of the deck connecting to the 2nd floor of Classroom South (the same floor as the reception desk!) Maps and Directions to Saturday School and the Parking Deck can be found on our website. * PARKING FEE: $4.50. PLEASE CARRY CASH. CREDIT CARDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED How do we know which classroom to go to each Saturday? A Classroom List will be posted on the homepage at least one week prior to the first day of the session. Please check for updates on the website in the event of changes. What do I do once my student is in class? Can I stay in the room? Parents and friends will not be allowed to stay with students in the classroom during class time without teacher approval. We do offer Parent Seminars during morning classes which are free for Saturday School parents. If I'm not allowed in the classroom, how will I see what my student has done? Parents and friends are invited to attend the Open House in their student's classroom on the last day of class. Information about the Open House can be obtained from the class teacher. What are Parent Seminars? How much do they cost? Parent Seminars are conducted during morning classes and are free to parents. Presentations are made by various professionals on issues related to gifted children. Additionally, the seminars provide an opportunity for parents to network. And as if a free seminar wasn't enough, we provide morning refreshments in each of our seminars! What if my student or I have questions on Saturday? Are their staff members available? YES! There is a Saturday School Reception Desk in the 2nd Floor Lobby of the Classroom South Building. Staff members will be available to assist you and your student each Saturday. Saturday School apparel, folders, pens & pencils may also be bought at the reception desk. What does my student need to bring each Saturday? Paper and writing utensils are usually needed. Other supplies and equipment will be furnished by Saturday School unless otherwise stated. For classes that require lab/material fees (as indicated by the class description), payment should be made directly to the teacher on the first day. My student is going to miss a day of class, what do we do? Absences always occur so don't worry! If you know in advance your student will be missing a class please contact the teacher for missed information and try to "catch-up" prior to the next class. For those unexpected absences please contact Saturday School staff. We will put you in contact with the teacher during the week so your student can "catch-up" prior to the next class. I'm afraid my student will get hungry. Are their vending machines available? While there are vending machines available throughout the campus, we suggest your student does NOT purchase through the vending machines. Classes will have snack breaks half-way through each Saturday. Please provide your child with a small snack/drink for this.
