*ACTING WORKSHOP

Improvisation, drama games, skits, storytelling, monologues, stage movement, character development, masks, props! Wow! Try it all out as you build acting skills and explore what it means to be an actor. Performance for family and friends the last day of class. Take this class more than once to gain confidence and expand their abilities as actors. Instructor: Kay Rosenblue (Free-Lance Instructor)

*DEBATE 202: CRITICAL THINKING

If you have taken the Debate 101 class and you are ready for more debates, this is the class for you! We learned the art of debate and philosophy behind it, but now we will go deeper. We will discuss social and political current events as they pertain to the applicable age groups. In our discussion, we will dissect social norms and identity issues. There will be group and individual debates on assigned topics as well as topics the students personally pick. Put on your thinking caps and be ready to battle! Note: Debate 101: Critical Thinking is a prerequisite for this class. Instructor: Laetitia Samuel (Free-Lance Instructor)

*GROSS ANATOMY

Get ready to have fun, be grossed out, AND learn a lot as you unravel the grand and gross secrets of the human body. This time the emphasis will be on the digestive system, urinary system, nervous system, and the senses. There will be lots of hands-on activities as well as exciting dissections. As a bonus we will whip-up some super-gross recipes like fake blood.  Note: A $10 material fee (given to the instructor on the first day) is required. Instructor: Sara Grant (Free-Lance Instructor)

Do amazing things: You’ve got what it takes! Create Hollywood style movies right from your desktop. Fun, focused and easy to follow instructions will be taught to quickly make your own movies come together. Learn the best ways to import, edit footage, and make titles, credits and captions. Create scenes and transitions and add sound tracks and voiceovers. Premiere your movie on a CD. Create effects you see in movies and on TV everyday. Get the best out of your family computer by creating your own computer language! Learn the “break the problem into bites you can conquer” problem solving strategy. Dazzle with graphics directly related to geometry and math. Create simple games to gain comprehension of the work behind all computer applications. There is no end to what you can make Logo do. Do you find math fun?  Are you curious to learn more about the meaning of a variety of math symbols, such as capital sigma “Σ”, capital pi “Π”, and factorial “!”?  Have you ever tried working on problems that give your brain a good workout?  Come and join us as we explore a variety of topics and work through problems from competitions such as Math Counts and Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools. Have a blast in this class while learning about the major systems of the human body. Hands-on activities such as model-making and high-school-level dissections are featured. *SHARK FRENZY

Let’s dissect a real shark. Biology will come alive as we find out about shark legends, the anatomy of sharks, their habits, and their importance to man, while we get in to a “frenzy” about sharks. Instructor: Gail Boynton (Fort Daniel ES)

*SPEAKER SHOWCASE

Whether you aspire to be team captain, president of your class or winner of an oration contest, learning how to write and deliver a winning speech will propel you on your way. Learn how to conquer stage fright, control your voice, and stage presence while you entertain, inform, and inspire. You will critique famous speeches, learn the secrets of professional l speechcraft, and have your moment in the spotlight. All participants will take part in a Speaker Showcase and receive a demo DVD. Your ability to speak without fear will stimulate your creativity, confidence, and competitive edge. See you onstage! The internet is much more than n Googling gadgets and Facebooking friends, and we’ll prove it by taking our classroom beyond its four walls and journeying to new worlds and wonders.  We’ll learn how to use the best of the web’s free tools and applications to virtually visit foreign lands and make new friends and classmates there.  We’ll also learn how to create free blogs, podcasts, and dynamic flash-based websites to exchange photos, videos, activities, projects, music, and culture with friends, family, and classmates all over the world.
