Phyllislorena Smiley joined the staff of the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services in 2000. She has moved through the ranks from staff assistant (front desk receptionist) to administrative assistant and currently serves as administrative coordinator. Her primary duties include assistance with course scheduling, textbook adoption, room scheduling and content management for the department’s website. She also serves as ad hoc administrative support as needed.
She received the 2013 College of Education Staff Innovation Award, which is given to a College of Education staff member who has generated novel and valuable ideas and used these to develop new or improved processes, methods, systems, products or services in any area of the college. Her proactive development of online departmental forms and revision of the Practicum-Internship database made a significant contribution to the College of Education’s “Going Green” campaign and resulted in increased efficiency and enhanced service to students and faculty for the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services. Prior to arriving at Georgia State University, she worked for 13 years in various clerical-administrative positions at her alma mater, Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss.
