What is the PRISM Institute?

PRISM Institute for Teaching and Learning of

Science and Mathematics

State PRISM Institute

A statewide PRISM Institute for Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics has been established.  Regional participants convene a community of scientists, mathematicians, and educators within the broad higher education communities who desire to learn about and share ways to improve their teaching and their students' learning. The ultimate goal of these participants in the Institute is to improve instruction in SM for all students at Armstrong Atlantic State University, Coastal Georgia Community College, Georgia Perimeter College, Georgia Southern University, Georgia State University, the University of Georgia , and the Georgia Institute of Technology and their partner P-12 school systems.

Metro Atlanta Regional PRISM Institute

The Metro Atlanta Regional PRISM Institute promotes the use of innovative design and assessment of introductory courses and research focused on teaching and learning.  The members of the Institute share practical examples with disciplinary and education faculty and provide opportunities to refine and publish enhanced best practices that demonstrate improved student learning.  Additionally, the program creates collaborations between high school classroom teachers and faculty at GSU and GA Tech.

Metro Atlanta is partnering with GSU’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and GA Tech’s Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) to design Regional Institute activities.  The centers provide opportunities and resources for faculty development, assessment, and support to enhance the learning and teaching environment. The centers sponsor activities such as, workshops, course assessments, book discussions, an electronic discussion forum, and newsletters.
