Edi Guyton joined the GSU faculty in 1982. She is Professor of Early Childhood Education. Her areas of specialization include teacher education, social studies and multicultural education, and constructivist education. She was an editor of The Handbook of Research on Teacher Education (1996) and is co-editor of the annual Yearbook of Researh on Teacher Education. She has published over thirty articles and chapters in national and international journals and books. She has presented numerous papers at national meetings and has been an invited speaker at meetings. Her scholarly work includes being co-author of the chapter on educational field experiences in the 1990 edition of the Handbook of Research on Teacher Education. In 1997, she received the Outstanding Research award from the Georgia Association of Teacher Educators. She chaired the Association of Teacher Educators committee that developed Standards for Field Experiences that were approved in 1999 and will be disseminated and used nationally.

Guyton was President of the national Association of Teacher Educators (1999-2000). She also was co-chair of the American Educational Research Association's Special Interest Group, Constructivist Theory, Research and Practice. She has served in many capacities at the university, including Senate Executive Committee for two years.

Guyton has been instrumental in developing graduate programs for her department and is one of the two leaders for the Educational Specialist Program, an innovative cohort-based constructivist teacher education program. She has taught a variety of courses at all degree levels.
