College of Education Scholarships and Fellowships

 

College of Education Scholarship: Three scholarships are awarded annually to one undergraduate, one graduate (master's and education specialist degrees), and one Ph.D. student in the College of Education. Each scholarship award is for $650. Application materials must be submitted to the Office of Academic Assistance and Graduate Admissions, 300 College of Education Building, 404/413-8000. The application deadline is November 2. Applications are available online.

 Paul Douglas Congressional Teacher Scholarship: This scholarship is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Authority for the purpose of encouraging teaching careers at the preschool, elementary, or secondary school level. Priority consideration is given to students in the critical teaching fields. Georgia residents who graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class and are planning to teach upon graduation should contact the Georgia Student Finance Authority at 404/493-5453.

 The Margaret Jones Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate student who is either preparing to teach or is currently teaching health and physical education at the elementary or middle school level. An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 is required. Application forms may be obtained from the Department of Kinesiology and Health (404/413-8050) at the beginning of spring term.

 The Charles McDaniel Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding junior or senior student who was a Georgia public high school graduate and who is now pursuing a teaching degree. A grade point average of 3.25 is required. Applications and further information may be obtained from the Office of the Dean, College of Education, 404/413-8000. 

The Robert Noyce: Urban Mathematics Educator Program (UMEP):
This scholarship is designed to increase the number of high-quality secondary mathematics teachers who are willing to teach and remain in urban school districts. The UMEP provides $10,000 stipends to students to pursue initial certification for secondary mathematics teaching through a Master's Degree program known as TEEMS at Georgia State University.

The Professional Development Schools (PDS2) Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded annually to students pursuing initial certification in one of Georgia's Critical Shortage Fields. Recipients must be willing to teach in a high-need school, in districts such as Atlanta Public Schools, Dekalb County Schools, Gwinnett County Schools or Fulton County Schools.
