Contents of Admission Packet

Official Transcripts

You must submit TWO COPIES of official  transcripts from each educational institution you attended (or are currently attending) after high school in your application packet. This includes summer schools and graduate schools. These transcripts are required regardless of your length of stay at the institution or whether the grades are listed on another school’s transcripts.  They must be submitted in sealed envelopes with official verification that the transcripts are original in nature.

CAUTION: Credits in approved or affiliated "study abroad" programs are considered transfer credits and require official transcripts, unless the home institution actually sponsors (manages and financially supports) the program, and it is fully under its academic auspices.

EXCEPTION: If you have previously attended Georgia State University, list your dates of attendance on the applications; however, you do not have to request a separate transcript.

Test Scores

You are required to include in your packet photocopies of your official score report of the Graduate Record Examination, if it is required by your department for admission. Not including these scores could delay the processing of your application. Applicants are advised to take this examination early in the application process to allow for unexpected delays in records management.

If your program requires the passing of the GACE basic skills test before admission, be certain to take this test in plenty of time for the score reporting date to fall previous to the application completion deadline for your program of interest. Remember to include Georgia State University as a recipient of your GACE scores. Scores are not automatically sent to Georgia State University.

Scores on the Graduate Record Examination are downloaded periodically into the Georgia State Student Records System. This acquisition is made at the University level and can take various periods of time, as long as six weeks. Every effort is made to apply the scores to student records in a timely manner, but no guaranteed time is possible. Official Scores must be on file before an application is transferred to the department as "complete." Also any applicable GACE basic skills scores if you are in a certification program. All materials must be in the Office of Academic Assistance by the application completion deadline.

Letters of Recommendation

Collect  letters from your recommenders in sealed envelopes; recommenders must sign their names across the sealed flap of the envelope. Submit the letters unopened with the rest of your application packet. Be sure to include the Letter of Recommendation Waiver Form to instruct us whether or not you are waiving your privilege to review these letters on our premises at a later date. The letters cannot be open or in unsealed envelopes or folders.

Other Supporting Documents

Portfolios, writing samples, publications and other evidence of achievement must be clearly identified in the packet and in the format prescribed by the department concerned. This information can be obtained by reviewing the department Web site and by contacting the graduate advisor for that department before submitting your application materials to the OAA Office.

Certificate of Immunization

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia requires that accepted applicants who have never attended Georgia State University submit proof of immunization from measles, mumps and rubella before being allowed to register. A form for providing this certification to the Georgia State University Department of Health Services is available on the Worldwide Web site. Questions about the requirement may be directed to the immunization unit (147 Sparks Hall, Phone: 404/651-1171; Fax: 404/651-1238). Immunization information must be on file with the university prior to an accepted applicant's first registration. Send the certificate directly to the Health Services Office. Do NOT send the document to the Office of Academic Assistance.
