If undergraduate students have taken less than 42 hours at Georgia State University and are not transfer students, they are required to seek advisement at the Student Advisement Center 255 Sparks Hall.At the SAC the student will be guided into selecting a major and taken through the steps to complete areas A-F of the core curriculum. Advisement for areas G and beyond comes from the Office of Academic Assistance in the college.
In specific College of Education advisement, the following aims are addressed:
Students are advised by appointment except during walk-in times that are provided for brief questions that can be resolved in 10 or fewer minutes. Students must schedule appointments a minimum of two days in advance so updated records can be provided. Teacher preparation students in the College of Arts and Sciences should contact the College of Arts and Science's Office of Academic Assistance ( General Classroom Building), for advisement.
How to Arrange Advisement
Academic advisors in the Office of Academic Assistance and Graduate Admissions may advise students in the College of Education. Advisors are determined by program, each advisor handling a particular set of specialties The college encourages students with questions about their degree requirements or academic regulations of the college or university to contact their advisors frequently.
Students with questions about course content, career plans, and expectations for their fields of preparation and interest may contact faculty members in the college. Students should contact the academic department in advance to arrange a conference with a faculty member.
For students considering a change of major related to career interest, professional assistance in selecting a career area is available through the university’s Counseling Center (106 Courtland St.).
Walk-in advisement is available Mondays from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. and Tuesday afternoons from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. Walk-in advisement is for quick questions which should not take over 10 minutes. Program advisement requires a scheduled appointment with an advisor.
