In a typical classroom environment, where it might be tough to get students motivated, Laura Meyers, an assistant professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education, is barking up the right tree. Teaming with her therapy dog, Sullivan, Meyers uses his good looks and well-bred charm - as well as her own people smarts - to spark new teaching styles that promote real-world applications across the curriculum.

- Center for School Safety receives grant to fight bullying in schools
American International Group Inc. has awarded Georgia State’s Center for Research on School Safety, School Climate and Classroom Management a $225,000 grant to study the effectiveness of bully prevention programs and to strengthen the center’s work in metro Atlanta.

- Falcon's Warrick Dunn visits new Atlanta summer camp
ATLANTA - Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn will inspire 150 middle school students at noon June 13, when he visits a new summer camp being piloted by Georgia State University's After-School All-Stars program. Nike announced Tuesday that Dunn will distribute 150 pair of athletic shoes to participants in The Mustang Summer Academies, which kicked off June 4 at Atlanta's Parks Middle School.

Over the past five years, the nation has become increasingly concerned over young Americans’ dismal knowledge of international affairs and global issues. In recent surveys commissioned by the National Geographic Society Education Foundation, young Americans ages 18-24 performed poorly on international and national-related issues compared to their counterparts in other countries including Canada, Sweden and Japan.
