Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The doctoral program in sport science is designed to prepare students for research and teaching careers at colleges and universities and for health, physiological performance, rehabilitative, and related research in other public and private institutions. Two concentration areas, Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics, are available within this program. The concentration in Exercise Physiology prepares students to teach and to conduct research relative to the effects of acute and chronic exercise on physiological responses, physical rehabilitation, and the prevention of cardiovascular and other diseases. The concentration in Biomechanics focuses on the scientific description of human movement through advanced techniques utilizing computerized film and high-speed videographical analysis systems, computerized force measuring systems, electromyography, and other state-of-the-art instrumentation with applications in many disciplines, including ergonomics, engineering, medicine, sport, and exercise.
