2012 COE Awards: A Call for Nominations

The College of Education is currently accepting nominations and applications for its 2012 awards. These annual awards are in recognition of outstanding student, staff and faculty and their contributions to the college.

Award recipients are recognized at the college’s Honors Day ceremony, which will be held April 3, 2012, at 4 p.m. in the Georgia State University Speakers Auditorium.

Nominations and applications are open for the following:

Outstanding Staff Service Award
The College of Education Outstanding Staff Service Award is given in recognition of and in appreciation for extraordinary services as a member of the staff of the College of Education.

Outstanding Faculty Research Awards
The Outstanding Faculty Research Awards recognize faculty members in the College of Education for outstanding achievement in the area of scholarship activity, with emphasis on the last three years. Two recipients – a full professor and an assistant/associate professor – are chosen for this award.

College of Education Outstanding Faculty Service Awards
The Outstanding Faculty Service Awards recognize faculty members who fulfill in exemplary ways the College of Education’s commitment to service and have consistently demonstrated exemplary service at the campus, community, state and/or national level. Two recipients – a full professor and an assistant/associate professor – are chosen for this award.

College of Education Outstanding Faculty Teaching Awards
The Outstanding Faculty Teaching Awards recognize faculty members in the College of Education for outstanding achievement in the area of teaching, with emphasis on the last five years. Two recipients – a full professor and an assistant/associate professor – are chosen for this award.

Hayden Waltz Doctoral Dissertation Award
The Hayden Waltz Doctoral Dissertation Award, a $1,000 cash award established by College of Education alumni, Drs. Mel Hayden (Ph.D. ’89, Ed.S. ’82) and Lucy Welzant Hayden (Ph.D. ’86, M.Ed. ’77), to honor their parents, is given to a Georgia State College of Education doctoral student who has defended his/her dissertation.

Ron Colarusso Outstanding Urban Education Dissertation Award
The Ron Colarusso Outstanding Urban Education Dissertation Award, a $1,000 cash award established by Dr. Ron Colarusso, former dean of the College of Education, recognizes a doctoral student with an extraordinary dissertation prospectus in the area of urban education.

Ron Colarusso Outstanding Early College Student Award
The Ron Colarusso Outstanding Early College Student Award, a $1,000 cash award established by Dr. Ron Colarusso, former dean of the College of Education, recognizes an extraordinary student in the Early College Program. Early College is a collaboration between Atlanta Public Schools and the College of Education that allows high school students to take college courses and earn college credits before they graduate from high school.

Ron Colarusso Outstanding Urban Education Research Award
The Ron Colarusso Outstanding Urban Education Research Award, a $1,000 cash award established by Dr. Ron Colarusso, former dean of the College of Education, recognizes a faculty member who has shown outstanding achievement in the area of scholarship or creative activity in urban education.
