Each year, the College of Education honors its undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students for their academic achievements and service to the college and the community.
College of Education Scholarship
The College of Education Scholarship is given each semester to a student for outstanding accomplishments in the College of Education. Students working toward a bachelor’s degree receive a $650 cash award, and master’s/specialist and doctoral students receive $1,000.

Hayden Waltz Doctoral Dissertation Award
The Hayden Waltz Doctoral Dissertation Award, a $1,000 cash award established by College of Education alumni, Drs. Mel Hayden (Ph.D. ’89, Ed.S. ’82) and Lucy Welzant Hayden (Ph.D. ’86, M.Ed. ’77), to honor their parents, is given to a Georgia State College of Education doctoral student who has defended his/her dissertation.

Ron Colarusso Outstanding Urban Education Dissertation Award
The Ron Colarusso Outstanding Urban Education Dissertation Award, a $1,000 cash award established by Dr. Ron Colarusso, former dean of the College of Education, recognizes a doctoral student with an extraordinary dissertation prospectus in the area of urban education.

Ron Colarusso Outstanding Early College Student Award
The Ron Colarusso Outstanding Early College Student Award, a $1,000 cash award established by Dr. Ron Colarusso, former dean of the College of Education, recognizes an extraordinary student in the Early College Program. Early College is a collaboration between Atlanta Public Schools and the College of Education that allows high school students to take college courses and earn college credits before they graduate from high school.

Roy M. Hall Award
The Roy M. Hall Award, named in honor of the first dean of the College of Education, is given annually to the senior who has maintained the highest scholastic average in teacher education courses.

Requirements for these student recognitions are as follows:
Dean’s List: Degree-seeking undergraduate students with a minimum Georgia State cumulative GPA of 2.00 who earn a 3.50 or higher GPA for the semester and complete at least nine semester hours of academic credit with no Incompletes.
President’s List: Degree-seeking undergraduate students with a minimum Georgia State cumulative GPA of 2.00 who earn a 4.00 GPA for the semester and complete at least nine semester hours of academic credit with no Incompletes.
