Program Coordinator: Jacalyn Lund, Ph.D.
Faculty:   Rachel Gurvitch, Ed.D.,  Mike Metzler, Ph.D., Deborah Shapiro, Ph.D.

Program Theme: Continuing Development for Effective Practice

This M.Ed. in Health and Physical Education is designed for P-12 health and physical educators who wish to extend their content and pedagogical knowledge for improved professional practice. The program features an integration of health and physical education content and includes a combination of coursework, simulated teaching, field experiences, and school-based inquiry. Students can choose to emphasize in health, physical education, or adapted physical education within the program.

This program will be offered through a combination of courses taken on-line during fall, spring, and Maymester terms, and workshop courses taken in person at off-campus sites in the Metro Atlanta area during summer semester.

This option is limited to 30 new students each year, whom must start coursework in the summer semester of admission, and continue through the program schedule shown for two calendar years.  Students who cannot maintain their cohort’s schedule can join other cohorts only on a space-available basis.
All students must currently hold T-4 HPE P-12 certification in Georgia, or the equivalent certification from another state.

This program is under development and pending approval from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia  and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The College of Education Office of Academic Assistance and Graduate Admissions cannot accept applications until approval is received. The department encourages potential applicants to apply for the on-campus program. Please continue to check this web site for updates.
