President, Mrs. Carolyn Hall (Specialist in Education, ’93)
Mrs. Hall spent the bulk of her career in south central Los Angeles, working for 16 years in the sprawling Los Angeles Unified School District, the second-largest school system in the country. She then moved to Georgia, where she spent a stint in suburban Atlanta as the principal of two Cobb County elementary schools. In 2000 Hall’s passionate commitment to reform inspired the former teacher to return to her roots in urban education as principal of L.O. Kimberly Elementary School in Atlanta until she retired in 2012. She has been an active life-long member of the GSU Alumni Association for 10 years and an active member of the CEHD Alumni Club. After her retirement in 2012 she served as the Vice President of the CEHD Alumni Network and chair of the CEHD Alumni Network Scholarship Committee. She accepted the position as President of the CEHD Alumni Network this August.
Vice President, Dr. Barbara Smith (Ed.S ’89, Ph.D ‘92)
Dr. Smith is dedicated to high quality education for all children, community service, and homeless education. Her early educational experiences include teaching biology, anatomy and physiology, and physical sciences at both the high school and community college level. Beyond her teaching experiences, Dr. Smith worked at the Georgia Department of Education as the associate director of the Leadership Academy, executive director of the Metro School Service Center and division director of Instructional Interventions. She also worked with the Center for Leadership and School Reform and co-designed leadership training modules that provided technical assistance to school districts on school redesign initiatives. Currently, Dr. Smith is the vice president for Government Relations and Equity at the AVID Center. In this role she monitors key education legislation, build alliances with external organizations, support pipeline initiatives with secondary and postsecondary initiatives, and coordinates national legislative initiatives.
Secretary, Ms. Traci Robinson (B.S. Middle Level Language Arts and Reading 2013)
Ms. Traci Robinson joined the CEHD Alumni Network in 2013 and immediately went to work by accepting the position as secretary. This fall she joined the staff of Summerour Middle School in Gwinnett County as a first-year teacher teaching 8th grade language arts. Ms. Robinson is motivated to teach students to reach their learning goals by creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and one the enables students to reach their fullest potential through encouraging student responsibility for learning. While it has been a short time since the first day of school, she is proud that she has created a sense of community, belonging, and acceptance in her classroom. She feels certain that with this foundation in place she will be able to focus on her student’s needs and help them excel in learning.View more alumni profiles
