Dissertation Prospectus Presentation — Amanda Moll
“Conducting adolescent economic empowerment in Kenya”
by: Amanda Moll
This dissertation prospectus outlines the research proposal for a study on exploring the relevance of education and skills development in meeting the needs of adolescents in developing contexts with a specific focus on the Kenyan context. Utilizing a mixed-methods methodological research design shaped by empowerment-based theoretical approach, this study will explore the skills adolescents and their parents value as empowering to shape their economic futures. This will be studied through an analytical weaving process that integrates results from both qualitative and quantitative datasets that explores two parallel process sub-research questions. (1) How is adolescent economic empowerment constructed by adolescents, their households, and teachers in Kenya? (2) What, if anything, influences Kenyan adolescents’ knowledge, attitude, and practices related to economic empowerment skills?
