Research Interest Groups

Established within the College of Education, research interest groups (RIGs) provide a forum for the involvement of individuals drawn together by a common interest in a field of study, teaching, or research. RIGs typically draw from across the six departments of the College of Education as well as from the other seven colleges within Georgia State University. An important function of the RIG is to provide a platform for in-depth discussions and critiques around new educational models and methodology. Another important function of the RIG is to foster academic excellence in research among participants while encouraging cross collaborative partnerships. RIGs give participants the opportunity to share information and research related to a particular aspect of their work.

Currently, there are five established RIGs within the College of Education:

  • Adult Literacy – Daphne Greenberg
  • Children’s Literacy – Mona Matthews
  • Research Methodology – Sheryl Gowen & Susan Ogletree
  • Professional Development School Communities – Joyce Many
  • TAH Development – Caroline Sullivan

Formations of RIGs that focus on new topics are welcomed and encouraged. The development of RIGs directly addresses Objective 3 of Goal IV of the College of Education’s Strategic Action Plan adopted in 2002: To establish prototypes for research interest groups.
