Social Skills Facilitation Position
We are in immediate need of a part-time instructor for our 6 year old sweet, bright, and talkative son who has high-functioning autism as he begins kindergarten in a large Christian private school on the south side of Atlanta. The individual selected for this position will work closely with the Emory Autism Center’s Monarch Program and will follow intervention recommendations developed by Emory’s Walden Early Childhood Center. Training in behavioral intervention techniques by the Monarch Program is included and PLUs are available for this training.
The primary responsibility of the teacher would be to facilitate appropriate social interactions and pragmatic language instruction between our son and his typical peers during unstructured non-academic class times such as recess, lunch, art, and music or during the after school program. School begins Monday, August 3, 2009.
Qualifications:
• Familiarity with autism and a major in education are required
• Must be able or willing to learn how to take data metrics during intervention sessions
• A background in Speech-Language Pathology or EPSE is a bonus
• Georgia teaching certification is a bonus but not required
• Must have own transportation to school location in McDonough
• Excellent references (academic and professional) required
The hours are flexible (between 8:00 am-6:00 pm, based upon schedule requirements) and compensation is negotiable.
