IMPORTANT NOTES:
A graduation application should be completed at least two terms prior to the term of degree completion. Please contact the Graduation Office in 231 Sparks Hall (404/413-2248) for further information.
The human subjects review (if applicable), and recommendation to doctoral candidacy forms must be received by the Office of Academic Assistance and Graduate Admissions prior to submitting the announcement of prospectus defense.
All announcement deadlines for those students who are presenting their prospectus or defending their dissertation, is 10 working days prior to the day of presentation or defense. Presentation or defense must be held between the first day of class and the last day of exams (day term officially ends), which is in compliance with the Georgia State University Graduate Bulletin, Education 2006 - 07. Presentations or defenses are not allowed during term breaks (this includes the spring break).
2008 and 2009 - Deadline Dates for Doctoral Candidates are listed below:
If you are graduating FALL 2008:
August 18, 2008 - Full semester classes begin
October 13, 2008 - Date by which the original and 20 copies of the announcement of dissertation defense and two complete typed copies of the dissertation must be received by the Office of Academic Assistance
October 27, 2008 - Last day to defend dissertation for Fall graduation
December 1, 2008 - Last day to submit final copies of the dissertation to the Office of Academic Assistance
December 5, 2008 - Semester ends
December 15, 2008 - Commencement
If you are graduating SPRING 2009:
January 5, 2009 - Full semester classes begin
March 2, 2009 - Date by which the original and 20 copies of the announcement of dissertation defense and two complete typed copies of the dissertation must be received by the Office of Academic Assistance
March 16, 2009 - Last day to defend dissertation for Spring graduation
April 27, 2009 - Full semester classes end

Equipment for Doctoral Prospectus and Dissertation Defense
If you are an Educational Policy Studies doctoral student and need equipment for a doctoral prospectus or doctoral dissertation defense, be sure to make prior arrangements to your scheduled appointment. Equipment is available on a first come basis. Note: Always have transparencies of your presentation on hand the day of your presentation in case of computer software or hardware failure.
