Bio:
Heather L. Lynch is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Georgia State University. She works with in-service teachers in the Early Childhood MAT program, all of whom work within urban elementary schools and who are focused on issues of social justice in their practice. She has taught in the public classroom for six years, five years as an ELA instructor and one as a Reading Specialist, particularly working with struggling readers and writers in Title One settings. Her research focuses on the ways in which individuals use video games to mediate critical digital literacies in ways that resist the domesticating side effects of traditional schooling practices, as well as the preparation of urban in-service teachers to be critically-minded, politically aware, and socially active professionals in their classrooms. Writ large, she wonders about current understandings of teaching and learning that privilege only very limited definitions of learning and success.
