ECE was awarded Learn and Serve America Higher Education Grant

Dr. Caitlin Dooley was awarded Learn and Serve American Higher Education up to three years ($654,000)

Letter from Learn and Serve America:

Dear Caitlin Dooley,

I am pleased to notify you that your application for a  Learn and Serve America Higher Education FY 2010 (New) grant has been approved by the Corporation for National and Community Service for an award of up to $218,000.  The final award will be contingent upon the successful completion of any additional grant negotiations.

Your accomplishment is very significant. Competition for Learn and Serve America grants overall was quite challenging, with fewer than 10% of applications awarded.  The review process was multi-layered and rigorous.  All proposals were assessed based on the criteria established in the published application guidance.  Each proposal was initially analyzed by a panel of external reviewers.   Proposals receiving the most favorable external review ratings were subject to staff review.  Finally, staff recommended proposals for review and approval by our Chief Executive Officer.

The goal of Learn and Serve America is to engage students, educators, and community residents of all ages and backgrounds in service and service-learning to enhance education, civic participation and communities.  Your program is an important part of our effort to create meaningful learning opportunities for students.  We look forward to working with you to make service-learning a common expectation in American education and youth development.

Corporation staff will contact you within the next month to discuss any specific issues regarding your application and proposed budget, or if any additional information is needed.

Again, congratulations. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Nicole Gallant
