How does Literacy Collaborative support literacy?

Literacy Collaborative provides teachers with an instructional framework that serves as a theoretical and practical base for literacy learning in K-5 classrooms. This framework encourages a balance of oral language, reading, and writing while focusing on explicit instruction in letters and words and how they work.  Children are given high teacher support for reading and writing when they need it and a gradual release of support to promote independence when they are ready.

Within the Literacy Collaborative framework, teachers are trained to gather information about children’s literacy growth and to use that information to guide daily teaching and to document children's progress over time.  In Literacy Collaborative schools, primary grade teachers, Reading Recovery teachers, school administrators, and parents work together in a partnership to ensure successful literacy for every child.
