Reading Recovery at Georgia State University

Georgia State University is a regional training center for teacher leaders.  Georgia State University supports teacher leaders in Florida, Tennessee, Bermuda, as well as in Georgia.  School systems or consortia that adopt Reading Recovery select a teacher(s) to send to Georgia State University for a year-long full-time graduate-level training program.  The teacher leader(s) return to their home system/consortia to train other teachers in Reading Recovery.

A key element in Reading Recovery is this two-tiered teacher training model, which involves year-long programs for both teachers and teacher leaders. Following their training year, teacher leaders are certified to train Reading Recovery teachers at a local staff development/in-service training site that serves a large school district or a consortium of districts. Each teacher leader trains a class of 8-12 teachers per year.

Georgia State University hosts an annual commencement ceremony each May for graduating RR teachers and teacher leaders.
