ARTICLE IX
Committees/Boards/Representatives/Coordinators
Section 1. Standing committees/boards shall include
A. Membership Committee
B. Publications Board
C. Nominations and Elections Committee
D. Honors and Awards Committee
E. Professional Development Committee
Section 2. Standing committees shall be recommended
by the Executive Board and approved by the membership at the annual
business meeting.
Section 3. Ad hoc committees may be established
and their functions assigned at the discretion of the president.
Such establishment must clearly indicate the purpose and length
of service for the committee.
Section 4. The president, with the approval of
the Executive Board, shall appoint the chairs of the following committees:
membership and professional development. The president-elect shall
serve as chair of the Honors and Awards and the Nominations and
Elections Committees. The past-president shall serve as chair of
the Publications Board.
Section 5. Committee Membership
A. The chair and members shall serve three-year
terms. The editors of the Division's publications shall serve as
members of the Publications Board.
B. The Nominations and Elections Committee shall
consist of the chairs of the constituent committees in addition
to the chair.
C. The Honors and Awards Committee shall consist
of the chairs of the constituent committees in addition to the chair.
D. Other committee members shall be appointed by
the chair subject to approval by the president.
Section 6. Duties of Committees
A. The Membership Committee shall develop plans
to be approved by the Executive Board for membership recruitment,
retention, and growth of the Division.
B. The Publications Board shall recommend policies
and practices to ensure the quality of Division publications. The
Publications Board shall also make recommendations to the Executive
Board regarding the Division publications. The chair of the Publications
Board shall serve as the liaison between the Executive Board and
the Editors, and the Publisher.
C. The Nominations and Election Committee shall:
1. Solicit recommendations for nominations from
the entire membership at the annual meeting and in the Division's
winter and summer publications.
2. Prepare a slate of nominees for office with
at least one candidate for each office to be submitted to the Executive
Board.
3. Prepare and distribute an election ballot to
all members prior to the annual meeting. The deadline for ballots
to be returned shall be set by the Committee.
4. The nominee receiving a plurality of total votes
cast by the membership shall be elected to the office. Results shall
be announced at the annual meeting.
5. Complete the election process prior to the Division's
Annual Meeting.
D. The Honors and Awards Committee shall recommend
to the Division Officers nominees for the DCDD Honors and Awards.
E. The Professional Development Committee shall:
1. Identify the professional development needs
of the Division's members.
2. Develop, in collaboration with the Chairs of
the Constituent Committees, the program for the annual CEC convention
and plan other professional development meetings according to the
policies and directives of the Executive Board.
3. The chair of the Professional Development Committee
shall serve as the Division representative on the CEC Program Advisory
Committee for the CEC Annual Convention.
Section 7. Constituent Committees
A. The Division may have Constituent Committees
in a number and kind to be determined by the Executive Board.
B. The Chairs of the Constituent Committees shall
be elected by the membership for a term of three years.
C. The Chairs of the Constituent Committees serve
as members of the Executive Board. As members of the Executive Board,
the Chairs of each constituent committee shall:
1. Represent the committee’s constituency
and present to the Executive Board the concerns of the constituency.
2. Provide recommendations for information to be
included in the Division’s publications.
3. Assist the Chair of the Professional Development
Committee in developing the program for the annual CEC Convention
4. Make an annual report to the Division.
D. The Chairs of the Constituent Committees serve
as members of the Nominations and Elections Committee and the Honors
and Awards Committee.
Section 8. Appointed Representatives to CEC.
A. CEC Representative Assembly
1. Two representatives from the Division to the
CEC Representative Assembly shall be appointed by the Division’s
Executive Board from nominations submitted by the Nominations and
Elections Committee.
2. The representatives must be members in good
standing of the Division.
3. The representatives shall be appointed for terms
of two years and may serve a second consecutive two-year term.
4. The representatives shall serve as members of
the Executive Board.
B. Other Representatives to CEC
1. As needed, other representatives to CEC shall
be appointed by the president with the approval of the Executive
Board
2. The representative must be a member in good
standing of the Division and CEC.
3. The term of appointment shall be specified at
the time of the appointment.
4. The appointee shall report to the Board on at
least an annual basis.
Section 9. Children’s Action Network (CAN)
Coordinator
A. The CAN Coordinator shall be appointed by the
President with the approval of the Executive Board.
B. The coordinator must be a member in good standing
of the Division and CEC.
C. The coordinator shall be appointed for a term
of three years and may serve a second consecutive three-year term.
D. The coordinator shall make an annual report
to the Division.
