ASSESSMENT DOCUMENTATION FOR THE DOCTORAL
PROGRAMS
The doctoral program of the College of Business
Administration develops for graduates a high level of competence in conducting
research and in teaching business disciplines by requiring (1) training in
theory; (2) training in general research techniques as well as research
techniques specific to a discipline; (3) research experience with faculty
members on contemporary research problems and issues; and (4) training on
teaching methodology reinforced with active classroom teaching experience.
A.
Program
Objective: To
ensure that the student masters the body of knowledge in the selected
discipline.
A.1 Expected Outcome: Students
should be able to critically evaluate and discuss theoretical developments and
the results of original research.
A.1.a Assessment Method: The successful completion of comprehensive examinations as
judged by a committee of appropriate faculty members.
A.1.b Assessment Method:
Presentations and/or discussions of research at professional meetings.
A.2 Expected Outcome:
Students should be able to conduct original research in collaboration with
college faculty.
A.2.a Assessment Method:
Review publication record of research co-authored with faculty members.
A.2.b Assessment Method:
Presentations at professional meetings of research co-authored with faculty
members.
B. Program
Objective: To
develop in the student a high level of competence in conceptualizing,
implementing, and completing research.
B.1 Expected Outcome: To successfully defend original research conducted within
the program.
B.1.a Assessment Method:
Successful defense of the dissertation conducted before a faculty committee.
B.1.b Assessment Method:
Publication of the dissertation research in leading academic journals in the
discipline.
B.1.c Assessment Method:
Publication of non-dissertation research in leading academic journals in the
discipline.
B.2 Expected Outcome: Conduct
during their professional career research streams which do not directly
involve research conducted within the program.
B.2.a Assessment Method - Alumni surveys at
intervals of 5, 10, and 15 years following graduation to monitor:
B.2.a(1) Presentation
of papers and reports at professional meetings.
B.2.a(2) Publication
of the non-dissertation research in leading academic journals in the
discipline.
B.2.a(3) Receipt
of competitive grants for the purpose of conducting research.
C. Program
Objective
C Place doctoral graduates in
research-oriented institutions.
C.1 Expected Outcome

Graduates will accept positions at institutions where the research skills
learned in the program will be utilized and further developed.

D. Program
Objective - To develop in the student a high level of competence in conducting
university level teaching.
D.1 Expected Outcome - Student should be able to
present theoretical and applied material to a diverse group of students.
D.1.a Assessment Method - Student should
successfully complete BA 920, Seminar in University Teaching.
D.1.b Assessment Method - Faculty will review
standard student/teacher evaluations and counsel students for improvement where
necessary.
D.2 Expected Outcome - Graduates will accept
positions at institutions where the teaching skills learned in the program are
utilized and further developed.
D.2.a Assessment Method - Alumni surveys to
monitor professional teaching development as reflected by employment at
institutions which recognize and value quality teaching.
