Program
mission |
The MIB program is designed
for individuals who aspire to organizational or entrepreneurial leadership
positions across all functional areas in firms with significance presence or
activity in international markets.
The primary objective of the MIB program is for students to: develop in-depth understanding of the
international business environment, extend functional skills to deal with
managerial issues in the global marketplace, demonstrate proficiency in a
foreign language, develop intercultural awareness and sensitivity, develop
leadership skills to function successfully in a multi-cultural environment,
develop team skills to be contributing members of an effective global team,
and successfully complete an extended work-experience outside their native
country. This is to be accomplished
through course work, including optional study abroad experiences,
participation in a Mentor Program, and a required overseas internship. |

Extend functional skills to
deal with managerial issues in the global marketplace |
Students will demonstrate
expertise in a functional area provided in the elective sequence of
instruction. |
1. Students’ grades in
electives. 2. Five years after
graduation, conduct analyses of placement, employment, promotion, salary and
other pertinent data to gauge effectiveness of program of study with special
emphasis on value distinctions between discipline-specific routes selected by
students. |

Demonstrate proficiency in a
foreign language |
Students will demonstrate
proficiency in at least one foreign language that is a non-native language to
the student. This includes proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking. |
One
of three options: 1.
Completion of this language requirement at a foreign institution through a
study abroad segment. Certification of language proficiency must be provided.
2.
Passing an examination approved by the GSU Department of Modern and Classical
Languages or other internationally recognized exam. 3.
Sit for a panel of examiners as determined by IIB and MCL to ascertain
proficiency level of the student. There will be both an oral and written
component. This
is required for all students.
Assessment must be completed prior to internship phase. |

Develop intercultural
awareness and sensitivity |
Students will successfully
complete a study abroad segment at a foreign graduate business program. |
Student
self-tests: pre-test administered at
the outset of the program; post-test administered in capstone course. |

The
student should be on a career path toward attaining/enhancing a leadership

Alumni
tracking survey within one to five years from date of program completion for

student will be able to contribute functional expertise as a productive

work-experience outside their native country at the completion of their

Students will successfully
complete an internship providing foreign business experience and
reinforcement of foreign language skills.

evaluation of student for assessment upon completion of the internship. 2.
Student intern will provide a written self-assessment upon completion
of the internship. This process is
followed for all intern placements. |
