General Education Assessment Subcommittee Minutes
Committee Members Present: David Chesier, Harry Dangel, Bill Downs, Mary Hocks, Val Miller, George Pullman, Don Reitzes (Chair)

Committee Members not present: Joan Carson, Tim Crimmins, Paul Franklin
The group discussed the subcommittee’s charge of developing an assessment plan for the GSU general education outcomes in the core curriculum, overseeing the assessment process, and recommending possible changes to the core curriculum. The subcommittee voted to approve the Draft Assessment Committee of APACE statement of purpose.
The subcommittee also reviewed and approved the Draft of the General Education Outcomes Procedures. Each subcommittee member will assemble several colleagues who are teaching courses that were identified as containing the particular general education learning outcome on which he/she is working. A draft of an assessment plan will be developed by those working on each separate outcome and sent to Don Reitzes by May 10. Joan Carson and Harry Dangel will be available to meet with each outcome group to help explain the task and guide the deliberations.
Each group will pilot their assessment plan on several classes during the summer semester, modify as needed, and begin collecting data in fall, 2004.
The group requested that their department chairs be contacted (perhaps by the Provost) and informed of this committee’s work and their new responsibilities.
