Three International Conferences on Women and Literacy
were sponsored by CSAL in Atlanta. The purpose of the conferences
were to gather researchers, learners, and policymakers for discussion
of issues involving women's acquisition of literacy skills. Featured
speakers included Jenny Horseman of Spiral Community Resource Group
in Toronto, Vivian Gadsden of the National Center on Adult Literacy
in Philadelphia, and Lisa Delpit of Georgia State University. Various
papers were presented on topics ranging from implications of the
National Adult Literacy Survey on workforce issues to an analysis of
homeless women, technology, and writing.
