About Counseling and Psychological Services

The department offers 9 degree programs in counseling. The department offers four master's programs in mental health counseling (formerly professional counseling), rehabilitation counseling, school counseling, and school psychology. The department offers two specialist in education (Ed.S.) programs in school counseling and school psychology. The department also offers three doctoral programs in counselor education and practice, counseling psychology, and school psychology.

Based on our commitment to diversity, advocacy and the belief that change is possible, the mission of the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services is to prepare competent professionals in counseling and psychological services to contribute to the body of knowledge that under girds these professions and to provide service to the profession and the community.

The CPS department prepares students for employment in settings such as rehabilitation clinics, public and private schools, correction agencies, colleges and universities, and mental health facilities. A concerted effort is devoted to providing students with the knowledge and skills to work successfully in these particular environments.

The department conducts information sessions each month where prospective students can gain more information about our department and programs. If you have questions about the department or would like to attend an information session, please contact us at 404-413-8010 or cpsrec@langate.gsu.edu.
