Major Areas of Interest
My major area of instruction within the department is the education of students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Students in this program receive a broad background across service options and communication philosophies. Several courses are web-based. My interests include the promotion of research-based teaching practices in deaf education, development of highly qualified teachers, and language development. In addition, I have been involved in working with state agencies to promote understanding of universal newborn hearing screening and intervention for babies with hearing loss. I maintain three websites: www.gsu.edu/gatod, www.gsu.edu/~wwwada, and www.gsu.edu/dcdd. The first is a website for teachers of the deaf in the state of Georgia, the second is a website for students, faculty, and staff of GSU who have an interests in learning about their roles and responsibilities relative to the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the third is the website of the Division for Communicative Disabilities and Deafness of the Council for Exceptional Children.
