Professional Development Wednesdays

New Professional Development Wednesdays Speaker Series

This semester, the College of Education is aimed at providing students, faculty and staff with professional development opportunities to learn more about educational research, instructional technology and educator preparation.

The Professional Development Wednesdays Speaker Series offers four different types of presentations each Wednesday in September, October and November:

  • A Research Wednesdays presentation, an existing College of Education series that brings cutting-edge researchers at the state and national levels to the college;
  • An Educational Research Bureau presentation, which gives attendees information about the grant funding process and how to establish partnerships with local schools;
  • A Learning Technologies Division presentation, which highlights trends in instructional technology and tips for using technology in the classroom; and
  • An Educator Preparation presentation, which provides faculty an open forum to discuss topics affecting educator preparation programs.

“We decided to expand on our Research Wednesdays Speaker Series to provide broader opportunities for professional development in the College of Education,” said Paul Alberto, College of Education interim dean.

The speaker series is coordinated by Susan Ogletree, director of the college’s Educational Research Bureau, in collaboration with Joyce Many, associate dean of undergraduate studies and educator preparation; Steve Harmon, chair of the Learning Technologies Division; and with input from College of Education Interim Dean Paul Alberto and chairs of the College of Education’s six departments.

Professional Development Wednesdays are held at 12 noon (unless otherwise noted) in the College of Education Forum, room 1030. Information about the speakers is available to the general public on the college’s website at and select presentations will be available for download at iTunes U.
