Honors Day Awards

In addition to honoring awardees from six academic departments, the College of Education recognized several college-wide award winners.

The College of Education’s 2013 Honors Day ceremony honored more than 90 students, faculty, staff and alumni for their achievements in research, teaching and service.

The annual ceremony, held April 11 in the Georgia State University Speakers Auditorium, celebrated winners from all six academic departments as well as faculty, staff and alumni who received college-wide awards.

Herbert W. Garrett, executive director of the Georgia School Superintendents Association, was also named the college’s 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award winner.

Garrett earned his educational specialist degree in administration from the College of Education. He has served as executive director of the Georgia School Superintendents Association for the past 12 years, rounding out a 32-year career in pursuit of providing a better education for Georgia’s children. In that time, he’s been a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent and has served in several city and county school districts, including Henry County Schools, Jefferson City Schools and Marietta City Schools.
