Dr. Heller, the Director of the Bureau, is a professor at Georgia State University in the area of Orthopedic Impairments (also known as Physical & Health Disabilities). She has directed the graduate program and certification program in Orthopedic Impairments for over ten years. She is a registered nurse with a masters and Ph.D. in Special Education and is currently certified in orthopedic impairments, mental retardation, and visual impairments. Dr. Heller has made numerous presentations, served on several advisory boards, and has authored books and articles pertaining to students with physical impairments, sensory impairments, and multiple disabilities. Much of her research has been in the area of literacy. She also directs the Georgia Sensory Assistance Project (which is the state's deafblind technical assistance grant). Mr. Peter Mezei serves as the Assistant Project Director for the Bureau. He is certified in orthopedic impairments and interrelated special education. He has several years experience working with students with orthopedic impairments, as well as those with several other types of disabilities. He is currently finishing his doctoral degree in orthopedic impairments. He has expertise in the areas of literacy and assistive technology. On this project, he provides training and technical assistance throughout the state, and assists with material development and dissemination (Click here to go to select on-line articles).
