Several organizations and agencies in Georgia are devoted to promoting effective educational programs for students with physical and health impairments.

Georgia Department of Education (DOE)

Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GPSC)

Georgia Learning Resources System (GLRS)

Georgia's Outcome Standards (GPS standards). Find Georgias GSP standards (formally QCC standards) for kindergarten to 12th grade.

GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY PROGRAM IN PHYSICAL/HEALTH DISABILITY (OI)

Georgia State University GSU provides certification only, masters, and Ph.D (concentration) in Physical and Health Disabilities (also known as Orthopedic Impairments).

STATE RESOURCES FOR PHYSICAL DISABILITIES

American Association of Adapted Sports Programs AAASP provides information about their programs on this website and information on local adapted sports teams in Georgia. 

Canine Assistants  This Atlanta based organization trains and provides service dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities or other special needs.  

Georgia Division for Physical and Health Impairments This is the state organization of the international Council for Exceptional Children's Division for Physical and Health Impairments. Check out this site for contact information and their national position papers.

Georgia Project for Assistive Technology  GPAT provides information on their website about their services, products, and training, as well as an AT resource list with vendor information and free downloads.

Lekotek of Georgia  This organization provides a wide range of services to children with disabilities and their families including activities with adapted toys and computer equipment, a toy lending program, and support groups.

Miracle League  This organization provides baseball teams for children with disabilities on specially designed baseball fields that are accessible for wheelchair users and walker users. Although it originated in Atlanta, it has been replicated throughout Georgia and the nation. 

Parent to Parent of Georgia: A Roadmap of Services. This site provides information on services to parents, from recreation to family support. 

NATIONAL RESOURCES 

Abledata  Abledata provides information on assistive technology and rehabilitation  equipment available from various national and international sources. Searches can be done by keyword, product type, company, or brand. Other resources are also available on this site.

Closing the Gap  This site provides a useful resource directory containing assistive technology and software available from a wide range of manufacturers. Information about their conference and library topics from past newsletters are also available.

National Organization of Rare Disorders  NORD functions as a clearinghouse, providing information on rare disorders.
