During the Summer, Dr. Pitts, Professor in Sport Management, traveled to Mongolia, Canada, and Taiwan. She was a Keynote Speaker at the annual conference of the Asian Association for Sport Management in Mongolia, was a presenter with co-author Dr. Natasha Brison at the North American Society for Sport Management in London, Ontario, Canada, and went to Taipei, Taiwan to meet with the Founding Team who finalized plans to initiate the new World Association for Sport Management.
In Mongolia, Dr. Pitts’ address was titled “World Sport Management: A Global Vision for Cross-Cultural Development.” She talked about her vision to bring sport management faculty, students, and industry professionals together around the world to network and promote international exchanges to encourage cultural engagement. Dr. Pitts, along with Dr. Brison and Dr. Cianfrone, faculty in the sport management program, want to create international exchanges for the students in the program here. Dr. Pitts’ travels internationally will help bring this to fruition.
In Canada, Dr. Brison and Dr. Pitts were joined by Dr. Moorman of the University of Louisville for a presentation about the legal issues involving advertising and labeling of sports water drinks.
In Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Pitts was there because she is a member of a Founding Team of about 15 individuals from around the world who were meeting to finalize the organization of the new “World Association for Sport Management.” After several years of work, the team developed the name and began writing the constitution and by-laws of the new association. For the field of Sport Management, history was made.
